More than 160 years ago, John Brandon and his family packed all their possessions and made the treacherous trip from Mississippi to a land that promised fertile soil, balmy weather and financial prosperity. Enduring a treacherous two-year journey over rugged, untamed terrain, the family settled just outside of Tampa, Florida and purchased 40 acres of wooded land for $50. The Brandon family would soon be joined by other pioneering families, and the town of Brandon, Florida was born. Few remnants of the town's colorful origins remain today to remind us of the brave and entrepreneurial settlers who laid down the cornerstone for the now-vibrant and growing community. The book covers the time period from the 1860s to the dawn of the 1980s. The author is a Brandon High School graduate and serves as the Brandon High School Alumni Historian. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book supports the Brandon High School Alumni Association and Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association, both 501(c) non-profit organizations.

Marvelously portrays the history of Brandon, FL

I grew up in Brandon and ordered this book as soon as I heard about it. To my knowledge, this is the first and only pictorial history of my hometown. The book exhaustively covers the town's history from the 1860s all the way to the 1980s. I absolutely loved reading all the stories (I had no idea Brandon has such a long, rich history!) and seeing all the historic images. The photos from the 50s, 60s and 70s brought back many fond memories! The book was incredibly well researched, and the photos truly brought the city's past to life. For anyone who grew up in Brandon or is a Florida history buff, this book is a must-read. Kudos to Mr. Wigh for compiling such a treasure trove of interesting historic information, rare photos, and personal stories from the town's founding families.

I met the author at the Brandon High School's 100th Anniversary. This book is fantastic and a great read. I love history and this book opened up more knowledge of the history of such a great town.
