Out of Date

I was hoping for more, but it does offer some helpful advice. The book's a bit out of date -- some of the examples are way out of date - from technology to marketing to today's audience. Very little value. Ironically the author encourage you to keep current. The biggest disappointment is that the author brags non-stop.

Best resource available for professional speakers

I'm not going to re-hash the contents of the book. You can look at other reviews for that info. Instead, I want to describe the RESULTS that this book helped create for me and my clients that I've recommended to read it:
1. Successfully increased my speaking fees by over 30%: If you feel like you're not making enough money as a speaker, or you struggle when negotiating your fees, Alan Weiss will give you the techniques and mindset necessary to overcome that problem. I'm earning more speaking income now than before I read this book, and so are my clients.
2. Landing speaking engagements more frequently: Alan will teach you how to get leaders to seek you out for speaking events. Don't waste your time chasing down leaders. If you know how to provide real value in your presentations, you can make them pursue you, which makes the negotiation, planning, and event process much more enjoyable.
3. Turning engagements into larger opportunities: Alan Weiss is a genius at helping you think bigger and see legitimate opportunities that most people miss. Myself and my clients have made thousands of extra dollars by learning to see a speaking engagement in a much larger context. Alan walks you step-by-step through this process.
I'm less concerned about the content of a book and more concerned about a book's ability to create real improvement for the reader. "Million Dollar Speaking" created tangible, significant results for me that you can't argue with. Four Words: Don't Waste Your Money

Just finished this book on my flight.
Total waste of money.
The author is out of touch and completely irrelevant to what's working in 2010. All he wants to do is talk to you about his "nice cars and houses" in an attempt to communicate his "authority". These concepts are out of date and based on speculation and catchy subtitles not what is truly working in the market place. I would suggest either "The Brand Called You" or "You've Got to Be Believed to Be Heard"
