great intro for nonmajors book

This book is great for a non chemistry or physics major that wants to get a decent understanding of the "nano world". There is has a lot of information, but there is a fair amount of overlap from chapter to chapter due to the multiple authors. I found several typeos and did not agree with some of their descriptions or analogies of various scanning probe microscopes.

This book is well-written and covers the field of nanoscience well, but the material the publisher used for the pages gives off a very noxious odor. With the book open in front of you on the table, you will probably develop a headache within about ten minutes.

This book is really an "introduction" of nanoworld. It covers a lot of areas in nanoscience and nanotechnology but none of them are in detail. It makes me feel confused since it talks every aspect a little. At most of the time I just skim over the content.

this book is pretty thorough when it comes to repairing the vehicle

Bought a cheap 2002 vw Jetta as a first car that needed fixing up, and while I've probably used the internet to look up what to do more often than not, this book is pretty thorough when it comes to repairing the vehicle, so I'd recommend it if you need to work on this car.

Long-time Haynes repair manual user

I buy used cars. I buy new cars for my wife. But every time I pick up a used car I get the Haynes manual for it. This one was for my son's car. He is not so mechanically inclined but he has used the manual to set up his maintenance schedule and get some repairs done. By researching the repairs needed he has been able to shop around for the best value in repairs. I just used mine to locate the resistor array that controls my vent fan so I could get the proper replacement as well as properly recharging my AC system after Sears repair emptied by trying to charge at the high pressure side. But Youtube is getting better and better.

Zeb Wells Finale is Near Perfect; INCORRECT AMAZON DESCRIPTION

Amazon.com seems to have incorrectly described this collection. New Mutants: Fall of the New Mutants collects issues 15-21 and is 168 pages long.
This hardcover collects the final two arcs written by Zeb Wells; Fall of the New Mutants and Rise of the New Mutants. In the first, we see a shady militaristic group, the same ones who escaped Limbo early in the series, trying to bring Doc Noc's ultimate plain to fruition. It should be noted that both arcs take place largely in Limbo, and draw from storylines from X-Men: Inferno and X-Infernus. We see a lot of action in this arc, as well as some more "team" moments. Including a kiss between two New Mutants!
The second arc wraps up the first arc, as we see them recovering from the Purgatory debacle. There is a truly tear wrenching moment in the end between Illyana and Peter. Wells leaves New Mutants on a high note. Leonard Kirk's art really works well. Limbo is depicted perfectly. And character expressions covey emotions very well. I would recommend this for New Mutant fans. For newcomers, I suggest New Mutants Vol. 1: Return of Legion.

The second part of a fantastic run for New Mutants

Zeb Wells does an amazing job keeping the New Mutants series moving, despite being part of a large Crossover. The return of Cypher is a definite must. The take on his character in a more modern setting was thrilling and perfect! The artwork is very strong and has an amazingly different feel than the previous volume, perfect for the volume and the story being told!

Last great story of the New Mutants

I grew up reading the New Mutants. I love them. When I heard they were coming back I was frantic. Zeb Wells did the impossible: he reinvented these guys and made as interesting as before. Fall of the new mutants is his last Arc, and with it, the end of the new mutants. Literally. The other 30 numbers that came afterwards were so poor compared to what he did. This volume of NM should have ended here. With Magik getting her revenge, Karma tasting blood, and Dani and Sam with blood on their hands. This story is cruel and bitter and in the end, the best of Zeb wells run. Impossible to miss. You can skip everything that came after this, but this one you should really have it in your x collection.

Looks nice, but the content is weak

This is a very attractive-looking book, and I am very happy if it can make some people more appreciative about mathematicas. But if you are looking for correct info about mathematics or its role in art and culture, then this is not the place to look.
Most of the claims you read about the golden ratio in art and architecture are not valid. The best source of info is the paper "Misconceptions about the golden ratio" by George Markowsky from the College Mathematics Journal v. 23 (1992), 2-19.
If you are interested in the pyramids, please read "The shape of the great pyramid" by Roger Herz-Fischler. Just do it! You will thank me for it!
She claims that there are 14 "demi-regular tilings" of the plane. She defines demiregular to be a tiling (edge-to-edge of regular polygons) with two or three different types of vertices. According to "Tilingss and Patterns" by Grunbaum and Shephard, there are 20 2-uniform tilings and 61 3-uniform tilings.
If you are bothered by statements like "It is nearly impossible to draw a precise heptagon using ruler and compasses alone", then this book is not for you.
Her pictures of the 17 wallpaper groups is wrong. She gives two examples of p1, but misses out on p4g.
Having said this, I must say again that she has a lot of beautiful material in the book. I just think that it is important to be mathematically and historically correct.

I just loved this book

This book is a treasure. I was given it as a present and I find myself turning to it for all sorts of ideas and also give it as a present quite regularly. She has managed to pull together a huge amount of wonderful information into a relatively small space. This is an inspiring, beautiful, thought provoking and even useful book. I am a graphic and fabrics designer and I had not come across some of these things before so I am very grateful for them.
I also really like the way the book is put together, lush textured paper (recycled I note) and quality illustrations. The way the subject is built up stage by stage until we reach the more complex set pieces at the back is very good. It helps you understand the basics of good design, and the use of geometry in this process.
I think the new-age overtones work very well too. She manages to convey some of the real mystery and magic of the field while never losing sight of the practical purpose of it all.
Highly recommended.

Part of a very uniquely presented series

If I had read this book first in this series I would have no qualms with giving it the five star rating. I'm not a mathematician, just wondering what's sacred about math. This book almost awakened the sense of wonder that another book in this series did ("The Golden Section: Nature's Greatest Secret.) The b&w illustrations and the explanations were fine for me. And this one left me wondering about the publisher of such uniquely presented themes. I'll keep looking for them.
