This book has been written primarily for students, but also for the professional, and it can serve as a starting point for anyone who is beginning the study of computer science and information systems for the first time. In the following text, algorithms and flowcharts are analyzed accurately, with clear examples, and with the implementation in C code, both elementary and complex algorithms are studied. Data types (simple and structured) are initially introduced, and algorithms and flowcharts are defined and illustrated with graphical and textual explanations. In the next sections, simple and complex standard algorithms with their flowcharts are studied: everything is integrated with explanations and tables to have a step by step evolution of the algorithms. The main analyzed algorithms are: the sum of three or n numbers in a loop, the maximum and minimum search, the linear/sequential search, the binary search, the bubble sort, the selection sort, the merging of two sorted arrays, and the reading chars from file algorithm. The last section of the text is devoted to the introduction of the C language and the implementation of the code, which is connected to the studied algorithms.

About the Author
Luciano Manelli was born in 1975 in Taranto (Italy). He graduated in Electronic Engineering at the Polytechnic of Bari at 24 years of age and then he served as an officer in the Navy. In 2012, he received a PhD in Computer Science from the Department of Informatics, University of Bari - Aldo Moro. In the PhD, he analyzed Grid Computing and published the results in international publications. He is contract Professor at the Polytechnic of Bari (Course: Foundations of Computer Science), and at the University of Bari - Aldo Moro (Course: Programming for Web). The author has fifteen years' experience, working in the field of computer science and information systems and he has also experiences about the subject at Polytechnic of Bari, at University of Bari - Aldo Moro and at professional courses. He is professionally certified engineer, and in 2014 he started working for the Taranto Port Authority, after working for 13 years for InfoCamere SCpA. He wrote the book "Fundamentals of Modern Information Technology" (Italian Edition - "Fondamenti di Informatica Moderna" - publisher ARACNE) in 2014 and the book "Web Programming in Java" (Italian Edition - "Programmazione per il Web" - publisher ARACNE) in 2015.

Clear and comprehensive guide to the fundamentals of algorithms in C programming

As someone new to computer science and programming I found the clear examples given throughout the book really helped me get to grips with the essential ideas behind algorithms and their use in C.

The main types of algorithms are covered in detail and described in a lucid style, supported by useful visuals. Taken together this book amounts to a comprehensive review of the topic. I personally found it very useful and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a detailed and easy-to-follow guide to the fundamentals of algorithms in C.

A nice surprise

It is not easy to find good books about algorithms for beginners, so i was happily surprised when i found this.
All explanations are simple and detailed and I really appreciated the quantity of exercises in C language.
I absolutely suggest it to people who want get familiar with programming basic or as general "refresh" for the others.

About the Author
Roger Lewin is an Associate of the Peabody Museum at Harvard University. He is the author of several books on human-origin research, three of which he co-authored with world-famous anthropologist Richard Leakey, as well as the author of the prize-winning Bones of Contention.

Great book. Great overview

I am an anthro grad and felt I needed an update, having been away from the field for some time. This is a great overview of current thinking in the field. Terminology has changed. New concepts have evolved. It's just what I wanted. I don't know WHY hominids are now hominins, but the author almost apologetically informs me that's the way it is, so I've got to change. OK, if I have to, I guess.

I'm somewhat dumbfounded by these other reviews. I can't imagine why Roten calls this book awful. In what way? The writing is clear. It's not the least bit boring, and he doesn't overwhelm you with arcane detail. If you want a popularist treatment of the subject, go for it. You can always read a Donald Johansen book and listen to him brag about himself. This book isn't out to entertain you, but to inform you. I read half of this on an airplane and was captivated.

Another three-star review says he is continually reminded this is a textbook. Well, duh! It IS a textbook used, among other places, at Oxford. And there's nothing at all wrong or poor about the pictures or illustrations. They are very helpful.

And, no, it doesn't have Homo florensis. That was only first detailed in late 2004. This book came out in 2005, so the text must have been finished prior. There is no way it could have included florensis. It is updated every five years and is in its fifth edition. I'm sure the author will include florensis next time. Be patient. Florensis isn't such a big deal anyway. Most anthropologists think it is an island-isolated erectus anyway. It doesn't 're-write' paleontology. Oh, wait! The news stories say it did!

My only mild criticism of the book is that it is too short with too little detail. But for what it is and what it is intended to be, it's great! Highly recommended.

Love the book...for an introduction to the subject.

I'm no anthropologist, but I have spent the past decade or so studying science. Recently, my interests have turned to biological anthropology and I have been building a library of books. This is one of my favorites! The text is easy to read and the pictures and diagrams are good. As an educator, I am always looking for more resources to supplement the texts that I adopt for my classes. This is a great reference and easy read for an introductory class. Where more detailed information is lacking, I just beef it up with materials from my other books. I only wish that I had an electronic copy!

This book deserves its description as introductory,and therefore it shouldn't be confused with more advanced works,but within the outlined scope a very outstanding quality has been reached in elaboration of highly particular issues which are of crucial relevance for gaining threedimensional perspective-spatial,temporal and causal-not only in classical introductory remarks that are to be found in similar books,but also in succesfull blending of these with wealth of theoretical insights into evolutionary process and biocultural adaptation.Bibliographic entries are few,provided with each chapter,but this is not deficit for such brief book.Highly recomendable for primary knowledge of evolution-it is neither too simplistic,and also not too elitistic.

David Cochran Heath is a professional actor with more than 30 years of experience on the stage in over 130 productions. He is also a lifelong fan of radio theater and has done a variety of narration and character work. He lives in San Diego with his wife, Beth.

Kalki by Gore Vidal

I've loved this book for decades, since I first encountered it in my early twenties. Every time I had a copy, I gave it away. As far as I know, Kalki is no longer in print, so I bought this used copy to have in our collection of beloved books. I've never understood why it was not made in to a film (at one point I checked and the film rights were purchased, I believe in the 1970s!) What a shame it has been sat on.

About the Author
Dr. Kim MacLin is Associate Professor of Psychology and Law at the University of Northern Iowa. She received her Ph.D. in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Social Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno. She teaches Introductory Psychology, Psychology & Law, Social Psychology, and Research Methods. She was a recipient of the 2005 Outstanding Teaching Award for Untenured Faculty. Her research interests focus on criminal appearance stereotypes, the source of those stereotypes, and how those stereotypes impact memory and decision making in a variety of legal contexts.

Experimental Psychology Textbook

I had to order it for my Experimental Psychology class. It is falling apart. Pages are coming lose, sections of the book are separating from the binder, and I still have another month of class. Authors need to think about a better binding system for this very expensive book. Not only that, the flow of the text needs to be revamped. A section is started on one page with a totally different section on the bottom of the same page and you have to determine which text goes with which on the subsequent pages. If this doesn't make sense, neither does the layout of this book.

this textbook is very convenient due to its small size and detailed information, it gives many actual case descriptions and examples. it is very research based and the information is very detailed and easy to understand, it does not have many tables and graphs for visual stumulation, i wish it did because then it would be a 5 star vote from me, but apart from this informality it is an excellent and informative learning and teaching device, especially after taking into consideration the degree of the subject itself. those of you who are required by your prefessors to purchase this book, as was i, you will not be dissatisfied in any way, shape or form. good luck and all the best wishes from me.

This book has one of the worst layout designs I've ever seen

This book has one of the worst layout designs I've ever seen. It seems to jump all over the place so you have no idea where you are reading. One of the chapter was broken up into the top half of the page across pages and the bottom half of the page across pages. The "cal louts" don't really stand out much from the rest of the text and the breakup of text and case studies is unclear. All in all, there may be good information in the book, but trying to figure out what on earth I'm reading and where the next sentence is going to be on the next page makes it really difficult to sort through whether the information is useful.

    About the Author

    Mark Edward Soper has been working with PCs since the days of the IBM PC/XT and AT as a salesperson, technology advisor, consultant, experimenter, and technology writer and content creator. Since 1992, he has taught thousands of students across the country how to repair, manage, and troubleshoot the hardware, software, operating systems, and firmware inside their PCs. He has created many versions of his experimental computer known as “FrankenPC” for this and previous books. Mark earned his CompTIA A+ Certification in 1999 and has written four other A+ Certification books covering previous and current versions of the A+ Certification exams for Pearson imprints.

    Mark has contributed to many editions of Upgrading and Repairing PCs, working on the 11th through 18th and 20th editions; co-authored Upgrading and Repairing Networks, Fifth Edition; and has written two books about digital photography, Easy Digital Cameras and The Shot Doctor: The Amateur’s Guide to Taking Great Digital Photos.

    In addition, Mark has contributed to Que’s Special Edition Using series on Windows Me, Windows XP, and Windows Vista and to Que’s Windows 7 In Depth. He has also contributed to Easy Windows Vista and has written two books about Windows Vista: Maximum PC Microsoft Windows Vista Exposed and Unleashing Microsoft Windows Vista Media Center.     The book is great about the information it covers, It lays out practice questions over the information passed on through the book. The CD includes a test engine that is great for studying the material. 5 Stars for this and the way the author put together the information in easy to read format and took the time to explain the material in detail.

    Two stars were lost, one for each exam, due to the fact that the book does not cover all the testable aspects of the exam. They added a new section to the exam where you are given a simulation. And must follow the exact procedure in order to complete the simulation. While the book does give you the knowledge, it does little to prepare you for the simulations on the exam, and I feel as if the simulations in my exams were weighed heavier then the knowledge portion.

    This book is a great starter but I would recommend hands on experience and other sources of prep to ensure being able to pass the exams. I believe most think this is a 'give me' exam, and they would be correct 10 or 20 years ago. During that time, you took the test over about 60% of what is now needed to pass. And the certification was lifetime. Today they have increased the knowledge base needed and make the certification renewable every three years if you have not progressed in certifications.

    I am CompTIA A+ certified as of July 2014!

    I cannot specifically disclose what the 220-801 and 220-802 exams cover without breaching my confidentially agreement. What I can say is that this book definitely helped organize my years of enterprise level support experience so that I could successfully earn my CompTIA A+ ce certification. This book is also a perfect reference for experienced techs who want to improve their service quality and perform better during job interviews. Hands down, this is the best reference book that I've worked with!

    ***WARNING***
    This book is NOT intended to be used as a shortcut to spending years in the field or thousands of dollars on exam preparation classes. The CompTIA A+ 800 series exams contain simulations and test case scenarios along with the multiple choice questions... unless you know the Windows XP/Vista/Win 7 environments from the data center to the desktop, from the gui to the command line, you need to get proper training prior to taking the 220-801 and 220-802 exams.

    Complex Recipes with Stunning Results

    Absolutely gorgeous book with complicated, complex recipes that will challenge most cooks. The recipe for an Heirloom Tomato Salad has 15 ingredients itself! That being said - if you want to rock restaurant quality Indian food this is the book for you. Most recipes have many components some of which need to be prepared in advanced but the results look certainly worthwhile. Be warned this is not for the faint of heart. It is a totally beautiful book with delicious recipes and stunning photographs but these dishes are not for a Tuesday night after soccer -- most of these recipes are projects - challenging, worthwhile projects but projects nonetheless.

    Sorry not for home cooks eh~eh you certainly cant do this at home unless you have fully equipped kitchen with pantry full of regular, special and very special rear ingredients and smiley pocket with countless monthly kitchen budget, what you think Michelin Starred Cooking is joke and can be replicate easy.... think again.....
    You definitely need a superior cooking and plating skills to replicate most dishes
    Seafood, game, meat, and vegetable sections are just amazing but very very weak on desserts may be one or two are do able other wise ~eh~ quite useless, surprisingly they didn't add traditional sweets or desserts like Kheer, Firni, Gaajar halwa etc
    Nothing much covered on serving styles or variations of Naan, Roti, or traditional Biriyanis.
    Alcohol lovers can find verity of drink recipes but nothing plain traditional drinks being touched or acknowledged.
    I am convinced for 4 stars (I deducted 1-star for disappointing sweet & dessert and not adding traditional drink serving styles and ideas)
